Your child will spend time learning the 6 syllable types, which will support them in spelling as well. This is one of the things that takes time to learn, but once the foundation is laid, your child will become successful readers and writers.

Phonics and Phonemic Awareness are two different things. Most of the time, if a child has reading gaps, this is where it is. Your child will know after the 9-week class how to manipulate sounds and letters accurately

Along with Fluency, Comprehension is an essential skill, but a child needs to be able to read accurately to comprehend effectively. 

Fluency is not just the act of reading fast. It is also the ability to read accurately and with expression. If your child struggles with reading as a beginner, it will affect their fluency (accuracy), which will, in turn, create problems with comprehension.
